Frequently Ask Questions about MVLL Baseball Divisions

Q. When do regular season practices begin?
A. We begin practices when the city opens the fields to us on March 1. The city allows us to schedule a little field time to hold baseball training clinics. We try to hold clinics in December, January, and February. Clinics are announced on the home page and are listed in Upcoming Events, also on the home page.

Q. Where do I find a calendar for the season?
A. There is an Events link (left side of the web pages). A one page list of events is available for download.

Q. What time are T-Ball games?
A. 9 AM on Saturdays.

Q. What time are Rookie A, Farm AA, Minors AAA, Majors or Juniors games?
A. We won't know until the teams are formed and games scheduled. Team managers will have game and practice schedules to distribute when they contact their players in late February. (Refer to the Events calendar for the date.)

Q. When does the regular season begin and end?
A. Opening Ceremony is typically the second weekend in March. Closing Ceremony is early June. For 2018, the respective dates are March 10 and June 2. T-Ball, Rookie A and Farm AA play up to the Closing Ceremony date. Minors AAA and Majors divisions hold playoffs for the 2-3 weeks before Closing Ceremony. There is a post-season for many of the players starting at 8 years old and older.

Q. How does the draft work? (Minors AAA and Majors divisions)
A. The draft is the method we use to distribute the available pool of players (within a division) to teams in a fair and balanced manner. Each team manager observes and rates each player during the player assessment sessions (tryouts) held in January and February. Soon after the last assessment, team managers meet (in a division). On the evening of the draft, each manager in turn, selects their players from the pool of players. Stronger players are chosen first followed by the developing players. In this way, at the end of the process, each team will have roughly the same level of talent.

Q. How are the Farm AA teams formed?
A. Players are placed on teams (players are not drafted). Teams are formed to have roughly the same level of talent. Requests for team buddy and coaches are accommodated as best as possible. Players must come to a tryout to be assessed on their skills.
